The Importance Of Teaching Kids To Be Eco-Friendly

Teaching our kids about the importance of a clean, healthy environment will not only make them more aware of the world around them, but also instill in them Earth-friendly values they can use throughout their lives. This could make the world a much better place for them to live as well as for future generations to come. The benefits of teaching them Earth-friendly practices can be seen right in your own neighborhood as children who are taught about the effects of littering and pollution are shown to be more active in neighborhood cleanup and recycling projects.

Keeping that in mind, we are going to take a look at some ways that you can teach your children the importance of being eco-friendly.

Teach Respect For The Outdoors-children who are taught to respect the outdoors will be more likely to want to protect the plants, animals and water around them. From building birdhouses to cleaning up trash in their local parks and natural areas, children will look forward to helping make the environment a cleaner and healthier place to live.

Recycle-it’s easy to teach children to recycle. In fact, you can make a game out of it and you will soon notice your children separating the recycling into the proper bins on their own. They will also want to look for ways that they can recycle in their neighborhood including creating local recycling programs and cleaning up abandoned lots.

Avoid Bottled Water-drinking clean, fresh water from the tap is an eco-friendly way of staying hydrated and protecting the environment. Plastic water bottles are piling up in landfills all over the world and many of them are not being recycled. If your children like drinking water while on the go, purchase reusable water bottles that are made from recycled plastics.

Conserve Energy-remind children to always turn off lights when not in use and turn off the television when they are done watching it. This can conserve a lot of energy and reduce the amount of pollution in our atmosphere.

Walk More-instead of driving to school or the local park, walk with your children. Not only is this good exercise, it can reduce pollutants in the air and give your children a chance to see the area around them close up. You can make a game of seeing who can pick up the most litter on the way.
